Katarina Witt began to ice skate as early as age five years old. Soon, her talents began to emerge and she was accepted into Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. In this school, she got to know their coach Jutta Muller. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut.
